Certification Series
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Certification Series offered by Manual Therapy Consultants is a comprehensive, skills-driven program designed for physical therapists seeking advanced training and formal recognition in manual therapy and neurodynamics. By integrating whole-body HVLA mobilization techniques with advanced neurodynamic examination and treatment skills into a structured progression, the program develops both technical proficiency and clinical reasoning that translate directly to patient care.
Successful completion of all required coursework and examinations leads to the Certified Manual and Neurodynamic Therapist (CMNT) distinction and demonstrates a high level of competency through rigorous, hands-on assessment.
CERTIFICATION PATHWAY
The Certification Series consists of two required components:
1. Comprehensive HVLA Mobilizations Course
A condensed, multi-weekend course covering:
- Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, SIJ, and extremity HVLA mobilizations
- Appropriate examination and patient selection
- Safety considerations, contraindications, and current evidence
- Extensive hands-on lab practice (>80%)
- Live case study integration
This course delivers all content typically taught over three weekends in a focused two-weekend format, allowing for immersive skill development and repetition.
2. Neurodynamics: Examination & Mobilization Techniques
This two-day course focuses on:
- Peripheral nervous system anatomy and pathophysiology
- Differential diagnosis of neural compression vs irritation
- Upper and lower quarter neural tension testing
- Neural mobilization techniques including sliders, tensioners, and central gliders
- Evidence-based application and case-based learning
The course blends hands-on lab instruction with clinical reasoning and test–retest strategies to support effective patient treatment.
Certification Examination (CMNT)
After completing both prerequisite courses, participants may register for the Certified Manual and Neurodynamic Therapist (CMNT) examination. This one-day certification course includes:
- A structured review of techniques
- A written examination (60 questions)
- An Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
- Live skill demonstration on a partner with two examiners present
To earn the CMNT distinction, participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% on both the written and practical components.
